Our Story
In 2013, InteCare Veteran Services was awarded a Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF) grant from the Department of Veteran Affairs and has since served over 4,000 families and counting. The purpose of the SSVF program is to promote housing stability among low-income Veteran families who reside in or are transitioning to permanent housing. InteCare’s SSVF program operates in Boone, Clay, Hamilton, Hancock, Johnson, Madison, Marion, Parke, Shelby, Sullivan, Vermillion, and Vigo counties. The program provides the following services as they relate to housing stability: outreach, case management, assistance obtaining VA and other public benefits, housing counseling and assistance with housing searches, financial planning as it relates to stabilizing housing, transportation, childcare, and temporary financial assistance as it relates to stabilizing housing.

Our Story
Funded by the Indiana Department of Veterans Affairs through the Grants for Veteran Services (GVS). InteCare Veteran Service’s Divert, Prevent & Sustain Program offers financial assistance for veterans who are experiencing an unexpected short term financial setback. We hope to help qualifying Veterans with the needed support (one-time) to divert a homeless episode, prevent an eviction and/or sustain their current housing status. We can also assist Veterans who are homeless but need a temporary boost, giving them the ability to move beyond their current crisis.
Some of the expenses that may be covered are security deposits, utility deposits or other expenses that are related to housing the veteran.
The Divert, Prevent & Sustain Program Specialist will work with the Veteran to determine their needs, make referrals, and document all financial assistance.
1. Discharge Status – not dishonorable, from any branch of the military service including guard and reserves.
2. Housing Status – facing housing instability including literally homeless, couch surfing, behind on rent but not in eviction status, own home and behind in utilities, in eviction status, staying with friends/family, staying in self-paid hotel.
3. Income – below 60% AMI.
4. County – within Indiana.
